It is no surprise that with oil access decreasing, the countries in the Middle East and North Africa regions are looking to expand the job market. One way they can do this is by incorporating more technologically-based jobs. The diagram to the left perfectly depicts why jobs are shifting more towards tech. The MENA region is being forced into a new era in terms of jobs, and how easy it is to implement it is due to market contestability. The MENA region must work fast in order to gain substantial footing in the job market. If they are unable to create opportunities later on, then it will be harder to create firms and businesses within the technological market and then they won’t be able to create jobs. Currently, there is not much focus on technology as the countries are primarily focused on oil, but there are some events that promote the creation of new businesses (for example the 2020 Dubai Expo - discussed on slide 3).
